All Natural Insect Repellent

I just finished watching Shark Tank (love that show!) and there was a company seeking funding for their all natural insect repellent.

This piqued my interest because I make my own all natural insect repellent with essential oils.  In fact, I said to my husband "They are probably using essential oils."

Sure enough, I checked their site and their main ingredient is Cedar oil (which is Cedarwood essential oil),   I also noticed their products sell for $39.99 and up and probably only last 6 months (depending on use).

Why not make your own?

The all natural insect repellent I make costs me less than $1.00!  (Not including the price of the spray bottle.  But once you buy one you can keep re-using it).

I use an Insect Repellent Blend which primarily contains Cedarwood and Citronella oil.  It also contains:   Ylang Ylang, Catnip, Lemon Eucalyptus, Litsea, Arborvitae, Nootka, and Vanilla Bean Absolute.

It smells wonderful!  How many repellents can you say that about?  It's all natural and non-toxic!

I basically add 10-20 drops (depending on bottle size) to a spray bottle and then fill it with distilled water.

One 15 ml bottle retails for $14.00 and wholesales for $10.50.  A 15 ml bottle contains 250 drops.  It is .04 cents a drop.    This bottle will last me over a year!  Probably two or three years.

It's cheaper to make your own!

TIPS for Using Insect Repellent Blend

-  Add distilled water to a 4 oz bottle, add 20 drops Insect Repellent Blend.
- Spray on legs, arms, clothes, tent, picnic tables or around house.  Safe for children.

- Safe to use on DOGS.  Put a drop on their collar.  Or spray bedding, fur (avoid eyes, mouth, ears, face)

-Excellent for GARDENING. Place 1-3 drops on a cotton ball and stick cotton ball in planter with herbs for all natural, non-toxic gardening.

Got Ants?

Did you know Peppermint essential oil deters ants?  Place a drop of peppermint oil on your finger and draw a line over the area where they are entering and they won't pass it...
